Advocare Spark contains various nutrients as you can see above.

But in order to giver a thorough review of this energy drink, we have to understand how these ingredients work in the human body as well as their benefits and risks.

And so, let’s dive into the details of the key ingredients that make this product so effective.

You might also find this article focusing on Advocare Spark Caffeine and Ingredients handy.

Caffeine

A pile of coffee beans
Coffee beans are a great source of caffeine.

The caffeine in Advocare Spark amounts to 120 mg per sachet. This caffeine amount is slightly larger than some canned energy drinks but you don’t have to worry about that as long as you consume the product in moderation.

Pro tip: If you want to avoid restless sleep, avoid drinking Advocare Spark during the late afternoon or early evening since it may keep you awake all night.

Coffee is a stimulant used throughout the world to boost energy levels, as we’ve discussed in other articles (like this in-depth article on the ingredients of Advocare Spark).

Caffeine helps to:

However, consuming too much caffeine can cause a whole range of health problems such as:

  • headaches
  • insomnia
  • nervousness
  • irritability
  • frequent urination or inability to control urination
  • palpitations
  • muscle tremors

In light of this, the FDA suggests that you shouldn’t consume more than 400 mg of caffeine a day since that is the upper limit.

Taking more than three sachets of Advocare Spark per day is not advisable because each sachet contains 120 mg of caffeine. But you can drink three servings without any worry since three servings amount to only 360 mg of caffeine intake.

But always take caffeine in moderation because this will lead to the great health benefits mentioned above.

Total Carbohydrate Content

Each serving of Advocare Spark contains 4 grams of total carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are sugar molecules found in plants and animals. Carbohydrates (along with proteins and fats) are one of the essential nutrients that your body needs.

Food and drink products usually have combinations of carbohydrates and consumption of these can be quite beneficial especially to athletes since it can make them feel less spent during prolonged exercise.

If you look at Advocare Spark’s supplement facts table, you will see the amount of total carbohydrates present in the energy drink.

The total carbohydrates are a mix of the total sugars (including added natural sugar), dietary fibers, and sugar alcohols present in food products.

But, Advocare Spark contains no natural sugars or fibers. There is only one source of carbohydrates in this drink and that is the sugar alcohol sucralose.

But do not forget that excess intake of carbohydrates (especially in those who have sedentary lifestyles) may lead to side effects like:

  • stroke and obesity
  • risk of chronic diseases like diabetes
  • increased triglycerides

Calories

A single sachet of Advocare Spark contains only 15 calories. Energy you get from food and drinks are measured using this unit.

Calorie consumption is very important because, without it, none of our body’s metabolic functions will work.

In order for our bodies to work properly, they need energy in the form of calories. About 10-15% of the calories you consume are used to digest food.

The general recommended calorie intake for men is 2200-3200 calories per day and for women it is 1600-2400 calories per day.

Consuming high calorie foods without participating in physical activities will result in the accumulation of fat in the body because the calories consumed are not being expended.

But instead of drastically reducing our caloric intake, we should exercise regularly and learn how to calculate the specific amount of calories our body needs.

The specific calculated amount of daily calorie consumption per person depends on factors like sex, height, weight, age, and activity level.

If you consume more than the recommended amount of calories (specific to you) daily, then you may acquire health issues like:

  • Heart Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Gallstones
  • Cancer

Sugar

A spoonful of sugar beside two strawberries
There is no natural sugar in Advocare Spark.

Advocare Spark contains no natural sugar. Instead of table sugar, the brand uses sugar beets and sugarcane as artificial sweeteners.

It is important to know that there are some side effects if you consume too much natural sugar.

These include:

  • increasing your weight
  • increasing your chance of getting heart diseases
  • causing the formation of acne
  • increasing the risk of type-2 diabetes

Take note, however, that sugar by itself is not inherently harmful. It only becomes harmful when it is consumed so much that the calories it provides is not burned up by physical activity.

And so, do not consume sugar daily. Instead, consume it moderately and exercise regularly to burn away excess calories.

Sucralose

The sweet taste of Advocare Spark is provided by sucralose since natural sugar is not present within it.

Important things to note about sucralose is that it only has low amounts of calories and it is very sweet.

It has been approved for use since 1999 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and researchers who have reviewed several studies on the substance found that sucralose does not have carcinogenic effects .

As you can see, sucralose can be a nice replacement for natural sugar because of the benefits mentioned above. But, it does have its disadvantages like the claims that sucralose can hurt metabolic function.

There is also concern about the chlorine present in its chemical structure because this element can have carcinogenic effects. Sucralose is also said to have adverse effects like irritating the skin, upsetting the stomach, etc.

Because of this, I recommend also consuming this in moderation just like natural sugar.

Taurine

Advocare Spark only contains 200 mg of taurine. This is good news because research shows that taking up to 3,000 mg of taurine per day is not harmful.

Taurine is a naturally occurring amino acid in the human body that is used as an antioxidant to move minerals from one place to another.

Taurine has a lot of benefits which include:

Taurine is quite advantageous to the human body as many studies support its therapeutic properties and no adverse effects have been found in healthy individuals.

However, if you are someone who has kidney disease, L-tyrosine (and other amino acid derivatives) may badly affect your health.

When it comes to these situations, I strongly recommend getting advice from your doctor before trying out any drink that contains taurine.

Food products will not be vegan if the taurine present is derived from animal sources. Taurine, however, can be synthesized artificially and any food product containing it would be vegan-friendly.

Unfortunately, the taurine in Advocare Spark is collected from animals which makes it non-vegan.

L-Tyrosine

There is 5000 mg of tyrosine in Advocare Spark.

L-tyrosine is a chemical compound essential to keeping the human body working.

Some studies have shown that L-tyrosine is helps enhance mental function and replenish hormones that get depleted due to stress. L-tyrosine is present in many foods but was first found in cheese.

The Greek word “tyros” actually means “cheese” which explains the origin of the word L-tyrosine.

The FDA has determined that L-tyrosine is generally safe if products that contain them are manufactured and consumed responsibly.

Considering this information, I recommend consuming this drink moderately or, even better, consult your doctor first before consumption.

B Complex Vitamins

Each B vitamin maintains the health and functions of the human body.

The complex of different B vitamins consists of:

  • B-1 (thiamine)
  • B-2 (riboflavin)
  • B-3 (niacin)
  • B-5 (pantothenic acid)
  • B-6 (pyridoxine)
  • B-7 (biotin)
  • B-9 (folic acid)
  • B-12 (cobalamin)

In Advocare Spark, the only B vitamins present are vitamin B6, niacin, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B12.

Let’s look into the details of the aforementioned vitamins.

Vitamin B6

Advocare Spark contains 15 mg of vitamin B6 per serving and, fortunately, it is recommended by experts that adults take only at least 50 mg of vitamin B6 daily.

The body uses vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), a water-soluble vitamin, for several purposes.

Its many functions include helping maintain nerve and skin health, preventing infections, regulating blood sugar levels, and producing red blood cells as well as some enzymes.

Therefore, getting enough vitamin B6 is very important. A sufficient amount keeps your body functioning properly and also treats chronic diseases.

However, consuming too much vitamin B6 can lead to side effects such as:

  • Poor control on muscle.
  • skin lesions.
  • Heartburn and nausea
  • Sensitivity to sunlight.
  • Numbness.
  • Reduced ability to sense pain.

Fortunately, Advocare Spark contains acceptable levels of vitamin B6 so moderate consumption should not pose any concerns.

In keeping with these facts, I limit myself to three servings each day. Take note: the lower, the better.

Vitamin B12

Each sachet of Advocare Spark has vitamin B12 amounting to 45 micrograms.

The recommended amount of vitamin B12 intake is 2.4 micrograms per day but pregnant women need 2.6 micrograms and breastfeeding women need 2.8 micrograms.

Cobalamin, commonly known as vitamin B12, is a water-soluble vitamin involved in synthesizing DNA and the metabolism of fatty acids and amino acids. Vitamin B12 produces red blood cells and maintains nerve cells.

It is important to note though that there is a high amount of vitamin B12 in Advocare Spark. As of now, knowledge on the effects of consuming too much oral vitamin B12 is limited and researchers are still conducting studies about it.

However, there are some cases when consuming too much vitamin B12 caused side effects like increased heartbeat and difficulty going to sleep.

On the bright side, as long as your kidneys are healthy, your body can remove the extra amounts of vitamin B12 when you urinate.

If you have urinary health issues, I recommend you consult your doctor before trying out this energy drink.

Niacin (Vitamin B3)

Each sachet of Advocare Spark has 60 mg of niacin. The daily amount recommended by experts is 16 mg for adult males and 14 mg for adult women (who are not with child).

However, the aforementioned experts also say that, if you take below 2000 mg of niacin daily, you will not experience side effects (considering you are healthy).

Animals and plants produce niacin (also known as vitamin B3) from the amino acid tryptophan. Humans require it in order to make energy from food.

Some of the beneficial functions of this vitamin are making sure the skin, digestive system, and nervous system are healthy.

But if you consume too much niacin, you may experience side effects like:

As a matter of fact, this drink contains a greater amount of niacin than is recommended per day.

In light of this, I recommend consuming Advocare Spark moderately.

Pantothenic acid

Health experts recommend taking only 5 mg of pantothenic acid daily with Advocare Spark. However, they do say taking up to 1000 mg per day should be safe but comes with a chance of diarrhea.

The B vitamin pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is essential for good health.

Pantothenic acid is needed to create and break down chemical compounds like fats, carbs, and proteins using certain molecules to generate energy needed for the body to function.

Even if no adverse effects have been observed with consumption of large amounts of pantothenic acid (aside from some diarrhea), I still recommend taking three servings or even less of Advocare Spark daily to be safe.

If you’re considering drinking Advocare Spark but you have a medical condition, consult a health professional first.

Minerals in Advocare Spark energy drink

A spoonful of minerals beside four green leaves
Minerals are needed to maintain your health.

Even if the human body is primarily composed of organic material, it still requires inorganic substances like minerals to keep running smoothly.

Minerals are essential for carrying out tons of functions in the human body such as balancing water and electrolytes, contracting muscles, and clotting blood.

The following table shows the minerals present in Advocare Spark and the benefits of each mineral and how much of each mineral is present:

NutrientsAmountBenefits
Choline500mgimproves brain functionbrain development, and mental health
Zinc3mghelps heal wounds, prevents gastrointestinal distress, and strengthens the immune system

Is Advocare Spark really good for you?

Advocare Spark is good for you if you consume it in moderate amounts and maintain a proper diet and exercise regularly.

As I have discussed, giving this drink a try can really help you out since it helps to increase your alertness and energy.

If you are an athlete who needs a boost during training or a student who needs to stay awake all night to study, this drink will be very beneficial.

But just keep in mind that even if this drink is rich in vitamins and minerals, it is no replacement for a healthy lifestyle. Consult a health professional first to know how to best use this product along with a healthy diet and exercise.

If you want to know more about if Advocare Spark is good or bad for you then you can check out this article I wrote on the topic.

Will Advocare Spark affect my weight?

I don’t think Advocare Spark will help you lose a lot of weight just by itself.

But with proper diet and exercise, it can give you the boost of energy you need during physical activities to help you maintain or lose some of your current weight.

If you have a low carbohydrate diet, taking this drink will not lead to fat accumulation if consumed moderately since the amount of carbohydrates in this drink is low.

Is Advocare Spark vegan-friendly?

As I mentioned when discussing taurine, Advocare spark is not vegan-friendly. The company itself doesn’t promote the product as vegan. Also, upon my complete ingredient analysis of this drink, I found a couple of animal-sourced products there.

If you’re interested in learning about vegan-friendly powdered energy drinks, you can check out these articles talking about the vegan quality of the following brands:

Is Advocare Spark keto-friendly?

Advocare Spark is keto-friendly as long as you do not drink too much of it or consume too many carbohydrates daily.

Ketogenic diets or keto diets (also known as low carbohydrate diets or LCDs) are meal plans that consist of very low carbohydrates, lots of fats, and an average amount of proteins.

Because of low carbohydrate consumption, a process called ketosis occurs. Ketosis involves burning fat to produce substances called ketones which the body can use for energy.

Because you can’t take a high amount of carbohydrates while on a ketogenic diet, it’s crucial to limit your daily consumption of the substance to 20 to 57 grams.

Each serving of Advocare Spark only contains 4 g of carbs so, as long as the amount of carbohydrates in your daily meals doesn’t exceed the limit, you don’t have to worry.

Is Advocare Spark gluten-free?

The manufacturer of Advocare Spark states that the energy drink is not gluten-free because it is not produced in gluten-free manufacturing facilities.

Gluten is a protein found in grains like wheat.

Those that practice a gluten-free diet usually do so due to certain medical conditions like celiac disease wherein the body’s immune system attacks the small intestine after gluten consumption.

Because of this, it is very important that food products declare if they contain gluten or not.

Unfortunately, Advocare Spark does contain gluten so anyone who cannot consume the substance should steer clear of this product.

If you do want a more in-depth discussion on the presence of gluten in the ingredients of Advocare Spark, you can check out this article.

Final verdict

That’s all for my Advocare Spark review. I would give this drink 8 out of 10 because it’s a pretty good energy drink mix worth trying.

And it really does work as the manufacturer claims. The drink is affordable, has no side effects if taken moderately, and has a definitely wonderful taste.

But I do hope that Advocare Spark could bring a vegan version of this product into the market one of these days.

The bottom line is you will definitely not want to miss out on all of the great flavors of Advocare Spark.
